What's the best Extended Warranty company?

Have a 2006 E350 with 45K, factory warranty expires this month so interested in buying extended warranty.

Has anyone done research (consumer reports?) on who offers the best extended warranty? cost?

I am interested in add'l 3-4 yrs 80-100K mile pkg. Did check out the package from Chrysler on this forum's website. Anyone know if it is any good?

Thanks
AQ

The best warranty is still the MB extended, I have heard nothing great about Fidlity, even tho the use stome stock car drivers to advertise for them. Warranty companies are in it to make money, your dealer probably makes more in comission, but wont get in the middle if you have a issue. I have been there with a Cadillac versus the GM warranty, salesman got his commission, go MB or put the money in the bank

You're welcome. My CPO warranty expired last summer and I bought their Platinum 3/36,000 for my E-Class. So far it has paid to replace my faulty instrument cluster, probably a $1500 job (new part from MB + labor). I have about 20 months and 25,000 miles left on it. They also offer a $0 deductible if you have the work performed at the selling dealer. I pay $50 if done somewhere else.

I agree with Peter. My CPO warranty was excellent! I was out of time and could not extend that any further or I certainly would have. But you have the option of extending your new car warranty with MB so that's what I would do. I wasn't thinking clearly earlier. I don't think I'd buy one from Chrysler.

In Canada...most 3rd party extended warranties are scamers and will not pay "when and if" the big claim hits.
I had to go to court to get them to pay for a major engine issue and the dealer had to join me in court to help make them pay.(We won )

Platinum...Gold ....Lead...it's all bullshit in the print ...and turn it over and read the fine...fine print and see what they will not pay for!!!

One line says that they will not pay for engine damage if oil or gas were present . .....So they argued with the judge that because of that exclusion line they could not pay for excessive oil consumption.
"Duh......Most engines I've seen have oil and gas in them."
The judge was obviously not impressed with they're logic.
Keep all service records and keep perfect records of the maintenance or you'll be screwed.
If extended warranties make you feel better,...then do it...but it's best to stick with the OEM extended warranty.

IMO the best extended warranty is to put the money you would have paid for it in the bank and use it for repairs. An extended warranty is an insurance policy and the insurance company is always going to win in the grand scheme of things. I have never bought one for anything and don't see a reason why I ever will. But that's me - some people seem to sleep better at night by having one whether they ever make use of it or not.

Extended Warranty from MB Factory

Thanks to all of you for replying. I asked my MB Dealer - Feldman Imports in Bloomington (Minneapolis) Minnesota about buying extended warrantly from MB, but was told that the only way to do that on a car with 45K miles (like mine) would be if I was buying a "certified used" car from the dealer. Even in that case it would only be an add'l one year of coverage. They recommend a company called EasyCare that only sells thru dealers (can't buy direct) and swear by it.

So how do you buy direct from MB?

Actually I like the idea of putting the $3400 in the bank that I'd have to pay for an add'l 3 yrs/85K miles on the odo (add'l 40K miles.)

Mostly I am hearing about electronics - instrument cluster - issues as these cars get older and that seem to be $2-3K range anyway.

I guess the rules have changed since I last looked into this. The CPO warranties were transferrable to another private owner and I thought the new car ones were too. Plus you used to be able to extend the new car and CPO MB warranties to 7 years of service and 100,000 miles. I also thought we could extend a new car warranty at any time that was still in effect; I guess not. Thanks for the updated information.

AFAIK, you could never buy one "direct" from MB, it always had to be through a dealer. But it was a genuine MB warranty.

$3400 sounds reasonable for the aftermarket but be sure to read the exclusions. Mine covers virtually everything and I paid ~$3200 for 3/36,000 beginning with 7/72,000 on my E320. So, I am covered until 10/108,000.

I'm glad you mentione the instument cluster. Fidelity paid to replace mine due to failing pixels. New part was $1500 from MBUSA and probably 1 hour labor ($100). The way I figure it, my warranty has 1/2 paid for itself and I have another 20/28,000 to go.

Banking the money is not a bad idea either, but I'm satisfied with the boat I'm in. Good luck.
