Hello from the Rockies

My dad recently picked up a 1983-84 300SD Turbodiesel. It has a bad trans(only goes in R). Anyhow this will be my first repair experience with Mercedes cars, after spending several years messing around with Merkurs.

Looking around it seems like I should find info on this car in the W123 subforum, however it does not list the 300SD as a model there. Any Help would be appreciated.

I'll post up some pics, and the VIN later on today...

As promised pic, and VIN:

WDBCB20A1DB043525 On the VIN plate it does say MODEL 126. I suppose that is where I tell what model it is, eh?

Car is in pretty good shape. It has been resprayed, but has on rust spot showing near a wheel well. Trans does not go in any forward gear(still looking thru posts, and waiting for my sevice info). Seems to have one or 2 externally leaky injectors, and the tach is intermittent. Gonna need some extra wheel studs, and lug nuts too. Man this thing sounds more like one my Merkurs, than a typical Mercedes
