Question My clk230 wont start!!!

Please can anyone offer any help? My car had previously done this a few times over several months and but had eventually just started ok. What it is doing is, turn the ignition to start (all lights come on and don't dim) and all I get is a heavy sounding Click (just one) and nothing. I have checked voltages at battery and starter motor and both reading 12.4, tried trickle charging the battery over night, tried jump starting, replaced the starter, cleaned up earthing strapps (even bypassed these with cables stright from the battery) Had no problems with anything prior and really don't know what to do? quite desperate now and need the car for work any help welcome

Did you measure the voltage at the starter when actually trying to start the car? Sounds like a solenoid/starter motor issue. Even cleaning & lubricating the starter motor moving parts might help (but it would need to be disassembled).

Thanks for the response. Battery level doesnt alter. I checked the starter (actually replaced it too) and its fine. the earth is fine too, however I can start it if i connect the soleniod directly to the battery terminal! Just shorting out the soleniod just produced the click, it was only via a direct connection from the battery? (if it was the other way round, negative, it would just be an earthing problem!)
