Unhappy Steering Wheel Shakes after 60mph and a weird hum

Hi guys,

When I bought my 1990 300D W124 it had low profile tires. The car is in mint cond with only 132k, except after 60mph the steering wheel starts vibrating. I went to my usual mechanic and he told me that I had bent rims. To remedy this issue I bought a set of original 15' rims. They are in great shape. After balancing the tires I took it for a drive on the free way. Now there's a weird hum from the front drivers side plus the vibration is still there. Im confused and quite frustrated. Any help guys?

I think I would rotate the 2 front tires left to right to see if the hum moves; you might have a defective tire. You could also try having a road force balance at a tire specialty shop that has one of the new Hunter alignment machines. Is the vibration exactly as it was before? If so, it doesn't sound like your bent rims was the problem.
