Nah. The same top mounted oil filter and 15 minutes job with MityVac.
Your car might not have oil dipstick, so check the manual about oil capacity and how to check the level on the dash.
Welcome to the forum.

Car is designed to have oil vacuumed out. Special tool required.

You can drain from the oil pan drain plug, but you have to remove a LOT of body panels to do so. Plug washers on German cars are ALWAYS replaced NEVER reused.

There is no dipstick.

You should own the service DVD and refer to it before proceeding.

Thanks guys. Very useful info. Can I use a manual oil suction pump to remove the oil? (I have one that I use on my boat that slips down the dipstick to pump out the old oil before refilling.)

What oil does the car take? 10w30, synthetic, etc.?

Thanks again,
Frank

Oil MUST meet Mercedes specification 229.5.

Your best bet is Mobil 1 0W-40 European Formula.

This, by the way, does NOT mean any Mobil 1. There are only 2 that meet the specification required, and the other is mostly for diesels and quite a bit harder to find.

And don't forget that you will need a 'fleece' filter....

a few remaining oil change questions

Thanks guys. Here's what I know so far:

Use Mobil 1 0w40 european style synthetic.
Better to pump the oil out.
Use MB approved filter element.

A few remaining questions if you still don't mind humoring me:

What is a fleece filter?

And is there any problem puming out the oil with an oil pump I use for my boat that sucks the oil through a long tube from the dipstick?

Thanks again,
Frank

If your oil pump works on your boat it should be OK for your car.

Regarding the filter, it's not really made of 'fleece' - its a kind of plastic, but stronger than the traditional paper design. Looks like this:
