Name the part

I am curious, what is the control unit (numbered 1 to 5) on the lower outer side of the front seats in the 220 S class?

Sounds like the control for multicontour seats. Try changing the numbers when the car is running (maybe in key poition 2) and see if the seat bolsters change. There are bladders the inflate/deflate inside the seat.

Another question. Is there a readily compatible CD magazine for the 220 S Class that holds more than 6 CDs. I don't intend to invest a lot of money into upgrading the System but 6 CDs is irritatingly few especially given that it's located in the trunk!

Not that I have ever heard of. As far as I know, we have 6-CD changers and that's as good as it gets, at least in the older cars. Maybe the in-dash changers hold more, but I really don't know.
