Talking Erbid's "new" 300TD (and his 240D)

Just got a new 300TD. I have been lurking to learn about the 300TD SLS for a week or two.

She's in great shape, but needs some quality time. Here's what I plan to do in the near term and have done recently:

To do:

1) Adjust parking brake
1) Replace shredded spare tire
1) Install dimmer for dashboard lights (purchased)
1) Lubricate mirrors
1) Attach grille and emblem (parts ordered. Not charged yet)
1) L rear sits maybe 3/4 inch low. Replace rubber parts in rear suspension, subframe mounts. Shim L spring if needed
2) re-route or extend tailpipe. It blows on the L backup light.
2) install new oil drain plug
2) replace tie rod ends as needed3) Learn about key in rear hatch
2) Diesel fuel filters
2) Fix leaking left rear tire (slow leak, 10 lbs in 2 weeks)
3) Replace or repair drivers seat. Sags in left rear, makes you feel like you will roll out the door before you can shut it
3) Upholstery, tear near floor on left side of drivers seat
3) Right and Left dash end trim pieces. Install right, order and install left
3) Map pouch broken on drivers door
3) Paint red parts of car to match blue exterior. (Maaco paint job?)
3) Investigate new style glow plugs and controller
3) Euro light kit for front (headlights)

1,2,3 Priority.

Done: (latest at top of list)

x) Clean "turbo boost" fitting at manifold and line to firewall (12mm wrench, WD40, paper towels, pliers to release line at firewall)
x) Align Headlights
x) Alignment (Stick, markers, qty 2 - 13mm wrenches for pinch bolt, one adjustable (19.5mm? 20mm?) wrench for jam nuts. 1/2 turn on each = 1/4 inch change. measurable toe out, 1/4 inch difference. Adjusted to 3/16 inch toe in (0.43 degrees) . 1/2 turn longer L side. 1 turn longer R side. Recheck after it settles in)
x) Tighten steering, check for worn knuckles, ball joints (wear not bad, some looseness in tie-rods. Steering box slop at 2.5 inches as steering wheel rim, Adjusted to 1/2 inch. 6mm allen, 19mm socket w 1 foot extension to loosen. 19mm box wrench to tighten)
x) Oil change (almost 8 qts, Hengst filter. New drain plug not installed, old plug has stripped head)
x) Align reverse with other gears so shifter moves left more easily, into the reverse selection position (moved shidter rearward for reverse, shortened linkage. 15mm, vicegrips)x) Rt tail light out (needs work still, corrosion from water retention. Was 1/2 full of water)
x) "cleaned" fuel system with a hot shot of veggie oil (about 3 gallons) followed by a couple gallons of diesel. No more "clogged fuel system behavior.
0) Backup (reverse) lights in poor condition (2 new lenses, one new bulb. Need to re-route tailpipe!)
0) Diagnose and repair self-leveling suspension (self leveling leak was low pressure hose to pump. Tank was resting on hose, which was routed over another hose right at the tank. Cut off leak, reattached remaining hose, refilled. L side still 3/4 inch lower than R side)

0) - Further work needed
x) - I am satisfied

1982 300TD - Dark blue, veggie diesel (no name yet)
1981 240D - Light Ivory (Lorelai)
Found out which end of a wrench to hold. Having a hard time letting go of it now.
