Post 240D Odometer

I have an 83 240D and the odometer has quit. I have a 2nd instrument cluster, that is meant to work - but the miles on the new cluster is 67K and there are 147K on the car. I'd like to set the new instrument cluster odometer to 147K - I don't want to scam anyone.

Any ideas??????

Rebuild the existing odometer using the gears from the good one.

I've been rotating those mechanical odometers both ways. Even had couple spares, but dispose them couple years ago. (4 years after I sold W123).
However it is easy to damage the odometer if you are not too carefull, so another way is to take a picture of both odometers with current newspaper in the back and just install the good one keeping the record of mileage change.

Common problem on these odometers. Once you have the odometer out, you've done the hard part. I'd just fix it. All you have to do generally is roughen up the shaft that the gear that slips rides on. There is no guarantee that the other odometer will work or last any longer than the one you can easily fix.

Diesel giant has a great repair page. How to Repair Your Broken Odometer

I think perfomance products sells the replacement gears. I saw them in the calalog but I can't find them on the website.

Advice for anyone driving an older MBZ. Do not reset your odometer while moving. Sometimes it causes the old gears to break.

Found the gear page. Search for Mercedes® Speedo Repair Gears if the link doesn't work.
