B200 Noise from Wheels

Hello mercedes gurus,

We were travelling to Indiana last weekend, and a noise from our wheels/brakes occurred while driving. Strangely enough, it would not change in pitch whether we were driving fast or slow. As soon as the parts warmed up, the sound would arrive at 3 km/h or 120 km/h. Once it started, it would not go away until the brake was depressed. I was concerned, so I took the vehicle into a Dealership in Fort Wayne Indiana. (p.s. they were kinda excited to see a B200) Anyway, the service advisor and I went for a road test and he instantly knew the sound was created from the brakes and the rotors, causing a harmonic sound to eminate. Its the perfect distance from the pad and the rotor. This makes sense to me, and he said the same condition occurs in the "E" class. I was pretty excited that it wasnt a wallet threatening indication of wear on some part, and he said it was quite safe to continue our roadtrip, just an annouance.
In all my excitement of this prognosis, I forgot to ask how to fix this ?

So, this is my question, how do I stop this very loud harmonic sound from continually occurring? I would think its a matter of time before all 4 wheels have the same perfect characteristics to "sing". Is this something that is going to go away?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Especially seeing how its my wifes car!

Regards

I guess you would not get a lot more replies from the B-class section. I have difficulties understanding how a harmonic sound could come from the brakes and rotors if it did not change the pitch with speed. A bit warped rotors could create some noise but it should change with speed.

If indeed the rotors are the culprit, may I suggest that you simply have them either replaced or resurfaced.

Best of luck!

hey diesel benz - i couldnt find the b200 area. I will look again, thx for pointing that out.
The pitch doesnt change because the distance from the pad and rotors doesnt change until the brakes are depressed. Its therefore constant. Its a pain to hear it, and its quite loud. anyway - thanks for your input.

thx for the reply noeken. I dont think there is anything wrong with the discs being out of round, warped etc. Its possible i suppose that the pistons are not returning properly to their home position, and the exact distance from the disc is causing the pads to vibrate this harmonic. I think I will have the technician adjust them first.
cheers
