Can I put a hitch on E420?

I'm moving cross country (FL to IN) by myself, and I have a 1997 E420. I don't need to move a ton of stuff, but I have more than I can fit in the car itself. I could get a moving truck and put the car on a dolly, but the smallest truck I can get for that is a 16 footer, which is more than I need.

I wanted to find out if it's okay to install a hitch and tow a small trailer (like 5x8). Would either the towing or the hitch damage the car either while I'm towing or later down the road?

Thanks for the help!

It shouldn't hurt the car for that short distance. But if it were me, I'd rent a smaller truck and tow the MB on a dolly.

It's about 1300 miles, so no, not an enormous distance. It's not a tiny car, but I've only towed with a van before, so I have no experience with how a sedan handles that sort of thing.

I'd love to get a truck, but Budget says the smallest truck I can rent with a tow dolly is a 16 footer . If I could get a ten foot truck and tow it, I would do that in a second.
