W202 Internal Rear View Mirror Disassembly

Hi Folks, I've finally found THE rattle. '95 C180 Manual. Previously had the radio and A/C out, tied up everything under the dash, lifted carpets and cable tied everything, even had the trim off from the windscreen pillars & cable tied them too. The rattle is actually emanating from the rear view mirror. Managed to get it off the ceiling, massive spring in there ! What I need to find out is how to separate the mirror glass from the plastic backing which holds the immobilser etc. This mirror has the red & green indicators on the front & rear sides. Took the car to MB yesterday and they said the two pieces could not be separated. I've tried squeezing and prodding with a thin bladed jewellers screwdriver but don't want to damage the thing. Any ideas before I drill a tiny hole in it and squirt some Sista Foam inside. ( This stuff expands to fill any cavity !! ) Holding thumbs.

Did you have any luck with your rear view mirror? How easy is it to remove the mirror itself?

Hi, no luck so far. Been thinking about it & will probably use a Dremel & fine bit to drill a hole in the left & right side side & squirt some Tectyl wax onto the bottom of the mirror .. hopefully that's where the loose bit is sitting. When the wax dries maybe it will hold the part somewhat. Will update as thing transpire.
