NAVI PROBLEMS

At times after driving for long distances my navi will act up

cannot read disc check dvd

so after a month or so I decided to take it to the dealer (oil change etc)

They told me I needed a new disc $280
I told them no thanks.
After getting the car back I checked the navi a week and notice.

so I checked the disc and its still my orginal disc it just doesn't work anymore.
At lease before I went to the dealer the navi worked just not all the time. (no scratches)

so I called the dealer and asked them what's up, there response was I have to buy the update disc nothing they can do.

My question is there a way I can get my old disc to work? (downgrade software)
Is there a cheaper disc? where and how much?

I haven't done it but it should be possible to get the old disc working (downgrade it).

A new disc would be a better option still. Have you checked if the Navteq webstore would sell it cheaper?

I believe the DVD drives tend to fail too, a bad/old disc does not make its life any better.

I will guarantee you that they performed a firmware update on yor COMAND system and no, they cannot remove it. I'm not sure how old your disc is but it's more than a few years old, buy a new one. I went through this same exercise last year.
