Please don't take offense, but I think you're overreacting. I really hope you wouldn't stop posting on a message board because of one comment that you found offensive?

No air bag deployment (rear end), just solid MB engineering. I absolutely believe if she had been in any other sedan she would have been seriously injured or killed. I absolutely could not believe she drove the car home after a thump like that..
My wife was in identical accident in her ML320.
The difference was, that the ML frame with the hitch took most of the impact without sacrificing the crumple zones. Only bumper reinforcement collapsed the way it should.
So even the truck had minimal damages to fix, the impact left her with spinal problems.
Some people don't even realize the importance of absorbing the impact, instead of transferring it into occupants.
There is famous test of Smart, that even after crashing at 60 mph into concrete barrier still opens the door. But the impact very likely would be fatal to occupants.
Bottom line -vehicle looking just slightly damaged after high speed accident is most likely very danger to occupants.

The last accident I had was in a '99 Altima (about the same size as a C class.) I had just gone through a green light, checked my speed (45 mph, the limit) and gone ~ 200 yds when a Geo Tracker made an illegal left turn right in front of me. I just had time to yell "hang on!" to my wife and stand on the brakes. No way to know how fast I was going at impact, but the air bags didn't activate. We were checked out at the local ER, and other than muscle strains, we were OK. The driver of the Tracker was admitted, but not seriously injured.
My car had ~$3000 damage, the Tracker was totaled. If there had been a passenger, he/she would probably been killed. The point is a lot of damage to cars doesn't necessarily mean serious injury.

Wouldnt the Geo be totaled if someone keyed it LOL. Just kidding but on a serious note to the driver worried about a shooting, unless you are in a car with ballistics reinforcement the sheet metal is not going to help you. That little bit of metal will not stop most small arms at close range. If it gives you a sense of security then so be it, but if you are getting shot at and you hide behind that you are in trouble. Get the AMG because out running them will be your best bet. So E63 since you dont like the S class

Aww, I'm always late to the party

But will second the advice about large sedans. Combining active and passive safety features, including resistance to rollovers, the S-Class would have to be my choice with the E (and CLS?) right behind. But yes, four-door sedans much preferred over pillarless coupes (and I have one of each) for crash resistance. Kind of obvious; that glass ain't doin' much when an SUV bumper says hello, even with a 'head-protection' curtain airbag in the way.

The big BMW and Audi sedans would also be a good choice.

Unless you're the OP, in which case...

From the horse's mouth. A W126 420SEL. This was well over 20 years ago, just think what they have now.

I think the original poster needs a Armored Mercedes Benz S600, just to be on the safe side...
