Welcome wowchad and good luck on the SL55/65
You should be able to get good assesments from this list on the positives and cautions of owning your dream car. I, too, feel that the price is now right to acquire the car you desire. Normally tuned SL55's are very zippy and a Brabus or Renntech must be mind-bending. I would recommend driving classes through your area SCCA, BMW, or Porsche clubs to help stay out of trouble with such able equipment. Fast is fun but avoid sudden stops without brakes. The old SEC's are heavy and perform ably at reasonable speeds, but come alive impressively at the de Facto speed limit (80mph) with significant accleration and very competent high-speed handling. As an older guy, the 560 SEC fits my excitement requirements even though I may put it on a road track training day once mine is sorted out sufficiently.
Just a note, I bought mine for $8400 and Jonathan says it is a very good one. I found any number of opportunities on eBay, CraigsList and surfing the web. Learn what to look for in a good example with excellent maintenance and be patient but ready to act when the right one comes along - good advice, also, for choosing a mate.
