Key Number/Code Question

I have a '83 380SL and wanted to make a spare key for it. I looked around on e-bay and there seems to be a pretty decent selection of blanks but I'm not sure which number my key is. Does anyone know for sure? Once I get the blank where can I get the key made? Is a dealership the best bet?

I'm not aware of any dealer who would have tools to prepare keys from blanks, not even those old simple keys. I assume you are from the US and the dealers there too would order a ready made key only (harder and more durable).

At least we have shops that copy ordinary keys (not only cars) and they have all sorts of blanks too. If they don't have the correct blank, they should know best where to get one (and likely would take care of it).
