Post Woodruff Key Slot Worn Out HELP!!!!!???

Hello all,
I noticed a small oil leak from the front end of my 1987 300SDL. I figured it was the front crankshaft seal so I set about pulling it all apart. Anyhow when I pulled the flange off, the notch for the key in the front of my crankshaft is about doublewide from what it should be. I dont want to have to replace the crankshaft. Any suggestions? I am in the process of making a round drill jig that will bolt to my engine centered on the crankshaft and pivot around the seam between the flange and the crankshaft. I will put a .2490" drill/endmill in my mounted drill and drill out 3 holes centered on that seam in a triangle. Then hammer three .2500" stainless dowell pins in from the front. Does this sound like it will work and last a while? Any other suggestions?? I dont want to rig it but if this seems like it will work permenantly then I will do it. If you see any issues in doing it then please let me know I will probably do this next week come monday. I have the jig made but I have to mount the drill to the jig to rotate with the bit cenetered on that seam. I havent had much luck with anyone answering any of my questions on here so hopefully this one generates some response.

Drilling all those holes will weaken the shaft, the best fix is to take it to a machine shop and they can weld the key slot shut and then machine a new key slot in it. We repaired many shafts with this method when I was in the navy.
