Could be pads need replacing. Could be the leak in the brake line is reducing line pressure below safe levels. Could be a bad switch at the e-brake. Could be a fault somewhere in the brake sensor system.
I'd bet on brake pads, but a car that old could have a fault in the brake sensor system due to age. Connections corrode, insulation gets brittle and breaks, wires break from flex.
