300ce overheating

Hi all, my '88 300ce is overheating. 197k miles. I have replaced radiator, pulled & checked head for straight, no resurface needed, no coolant in oil. I've vented the head while adding coolant, pulled the thermostat, no noise or leakage from water pump. Kinda driving me nuts here... I pulled the upper hose, no coolant flow while running, but looking down into the w/pump, I can see water flowing & it's returning from head. Any clues? Thank you, Mike.
