You mean they need ....service...? !!
Gosh, I would have never thought that!
Seriously, I'm gonna tell you something. Believe it or not. We in the US are taken for pigeons by those great folks in Germany that make these wonderful cars that we all love.
First of all, in Europe, they offer lower end models that are not made available in the US. My 1998 C180 had cloth seats - ever seen either in the US? Oh no, only more top-of-the-line for us.
Secondly, in Europe, one of the largest category of users are taxis. They use mostly middle models. Do you think taxis can afford to pay $450 - 800 for essentially an oil and filter change ? No way. Service, even at dealers, costs less in Europe since the cars are marketed across a broader spectrum.
I never cringed when I got a service bill in Europe.
Here, I do a lot of service myself - oil and oil filter change. other filters, and will go to a good independent mechanic for the rest.
If I thought that I would for some reason HAVE TO do all my servicing at the dealer, I would not have bought a Mercedes.
