newb here needs advice on 300d problems

I purchased a 82 300d a few months back, it is my first mb and it will not be my last.

When I bought the car it ran fine, except for the engine not turning off and the ac not working, (the tach works occasionally, but not often). I had both the shut off and ac fixed within the first month as well as a new battery. Being in Las Vegas ac is very important during the summer months. It ran fine until two weeks ago I installed a stereo system with amp, then it started having trouble starting, sometimes it would start with no problem and sometimes I needed a jump. I took it to a friend and had a new alternator installed, on the way I noticed the odometer stopped working (over 309,000). He installed the new alt and I drove around for the next hour or so with no problems, then as I was pulling into my driveway the temperature gauge shot up over the red and the engine was boiling over. I had to jump it once it cooled down, and it keeps overheating. Im assuming that is my thermostat right? but what about it not starting? the starter in there looks pretty new. is it the vacuum lines? the other day it took the engine about ten seconds to turn off after I had taken out the key.

Do you guys have any advice? should I post this somewhere else?

btw this is the most comfortable car I have ever owned. Im already thinking about purchasing a newer benz, something with less miles and maybe a bit more pickup, cause man this thing is slow on the take off.

any help would be appreciated, thanks guys!
