Cool importing from the US?

has anyone imported a newer Benz from the US recently? I imported a 2007 ML CDI recently and am in the process of meeting RIV requirements. I basically just need to get the daytime running lights fixed so they are on all the time, BUT...I went to my local MB dealership (Star Motors) and their service manager was trying to tell me I need to change the instrumentation panel at a cost of $3000 or my warranty will be "invalid". he said they don't like to use the expression "void the warranty". From what I've read and heard from the RIV, all I need to do is the daytime running lights. The service manager also told me that in the 2.5 years he has been working at MB, they have dealt with 50 imports and every single one of them had their instrumentation panel changed. he was aware of the year, make and model of my ML, so just not sure what he's trying to pull.

anyone have any ideas or similar experiences?

Why would you need to change the instrument panel? MPH and KPH are readily convertible mentally.

Star Motors in Kitchener, Ontario? If so, small world, I went to University of Waterloo and used to take my Subaru to Star.

Anyway, you really need to be talking to Transport Canada or Customs of whoever actually sets the rules.

FWIW I imported my 2003 S500 from Canada to the US and didn't have to change anything. The speedometer can be changed from km to miles electronically.
