RUST-MB e320 2001 knowledge???

Dear Members:
I have been informed that MB knows of and acknowledges that they have historically had a problem with corrosion on the doors of the MB E320 series around the year of 2001. Does anyone have any knowledge and CONFIRMATION of MB acknowledging this problem and what they are doing or have historically done about this problem. I have a door off a 2001 e320 with mild rust on the bottom that the authorized by MB repair facility, Autometric in Detroit, MI. states must be replaced at ~$900 later. It appears to me that the problem existed only with the bottom edge door seal. The metal of the door appeared to be sound. Any comments please.
Thank you, Walter

Do you mean a build date 2001 car or a MY 2001 car? I've understood the door rust issue being more of a problem of the pre-facelift models, not necessarily the first models (the first may not have been sold to the US).

The door design is different on a face lift car although the rust issue should come from a material supplier that several brands were using at that time (more like before 2000).

I'm positive that MBUSA has paid for rust repair on W210 still under warranty at the time. That consititutes "acknowledgement."

When past the warranty period, there's not much recourse unless perhaps if you are the original owner of the car and have had it religiously serviced at the original selling dealer.

The description in the previous paragraph describes how any manufacturer would treat this, not just Mercedes. The only "free" fixes you can expect from any manufacturer save this, are safety recall issues.

I have read about a dealer technical bulletin (not sure that's the proper term) issued by MB directing the dealers to apply some sort of "goop" under the rubber door seals. If you peel yours back you might be able to see some of it. That is unless yours was not treated.
