My wife and I have always had smaller cars and never anything with more than four cylinders. Then we had a baby and wanted a little more room so--in spite of the horrible economy and rising fuel prices--went out and got a 2000 ML430 (twice the number of cyliders and nearly three times the displacement of my other car).
We've had it for over a year and have a love/hate relationship with it. It is super convenient, eminently comfortable, nice to take off road and--when it's running right--seems to have the acceleration of a Saturn V rocket. The down side is an on again/off again Check Engine Light issue coupled with rough idling and decreased fuel mileage.
Generally speaking, we enjoy our Mercedes and it suites our lifestyle perfectly, but we're hoping to nail down these engine issues.
