question on blend air actuator

does the blend air actuator control the heat and A/C into the car or is it just for the A/C.

I believe that the actuator motor opens the flap thus allowing the mixing of warm/hot air into the cabin.
A closed flap would stop the flow of this hot air into the cabin.
At least this is what I have observed when I removed the radio an manually pushed the actuator flap linkage. Effectively blocking the hot air from entering the cabin.
My actuator motor (plastic gears!) is not working properly. This sounds like a common issue with the ML. It is hot in Texas and having some cold air is nice.
I'm going to wait until the fall to replace this motor.

It is a 2003 ML320, No heat or A/C in cabin, the three dials light up, air control blows control change speeds, changes locations in cabin, no other problems, defroster switch works

I have a 2000 ML320 with same problem. Well, I only get extreme heat. AC kicks on and the AC pipes are freezing cold. Im suspecting the control box (Denso Box #tn277300-0790) behind the HVAC unit. Can that also be the cause? I would hate to remove the dash for the actuator and find out its the box behind the HVAC.
