How to park?

Does it do anything to the car if you don't park with the front wheels straight?

No, as a matter of fact, it is recommended that you turn your wheels in or out depending on whether you are parked on a downhill or uphill spot.

Understand while that's parked on a slope. Can't understand why people habitually steer the wheels to be straight before getting done with parking even on a flat surface. That's the sight in HK if you walk into any parking lot.

Could be a few reasons. I do it so that I know where my car will move when I get back in it and not have a surprise moving to one side in a parking garage, etc. Others may do this to help protect the wheels from being hit by a car or bike driving too close. Finally, I'd guess some people just prefer to see the steering wheel level when they get in/out.

Makes sense. Can I have a few more replies to confirm that whichever way the front wheels are steered this does nothing bad to the car when parked?

To start, I learned driving in Europe. I can park my car in single maneuver in the spot with 4' of clearance.
Besides steep hills where for safety reasons you have to turn your wheels against the curb, there is no reason to move your wheels after parking the car. Remember that moving your wheels on stopped car not only leave flat spots on the tires, but put extreme stress on the steering system. On most of European cars with no PS such maneuver is simply impossible.
So after parking my car on reverse with wheels turned maximum left, I leave it like that. Makes very easy maneuver on pulling out as well.
