Hello Benz owners. I purchased a 1980 300D new in 1980 and planned to dirve it into retirement but my wife drove it to work when I told her not to, it was low on oil and due for change. She blew the engine on the freeway......
I now have a 1991 500SL (70,000 miles) that belonged to my Sister in law. I have all service records from new. The car was driven about 50 miles per year for the last five years so it has a few minor drivability problems. I replaced the sound system with a modern sterio with a mp3 player just last month, it took three weeks to remove all the old parts and wiring and install new but it sounds good. I am still using the original speakers. The car feels like it leans out when warm and comming off idle. If I shut it off and restart when warm it will barely run for hundreds of feet from a stop until on a hiway where I can run the speed up to 40 or more for an extended time, the faster I rev the engine the better it runs when warm. Spark plugs look light gray and are dry. Oh yes, I owned a 250 Ferrari for five years also a Corvette and an Austin Healy 100-4.
