Unhappy ASR LIGHT 1993 500SL

My ASR light is on, I have checked the tires for proper air pressure and wear and they are OK. I then built the diagnostic code reader from this web site and connected to the ECU connection pins for testing the ASR circuit (socket 1: Ground) (socket 3: 12V) (socket 6: ABS/ASR output) for testing. The results were two faults: 21 flashes and 30 flashes. I have purchased the MB CD but cant find the fault code table on the CD. I did find find a fault code table on this web site and I think it's for my model car. It states 21 flashes is the Pressure Switch (A7/3s1) Charge and 30 flashes is the CAN data line to EA/CC/ISC module (N4/1). Wow, I dont have a clue what either one of those possible causes could be or where to begin. Any help into trouble shooting and solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.

A7/3s1, I can look it up at work next week to see what switch that is. You can live with a ASR light on. Not sure of the condition of you car, but if you can wait, I will look up the switch and also the pins you used to test the codes, to make sure they are right. I printed your post so I have your results.

Ok, sorry I took so long to respond. You did connect to the correct pins to check the BAS/ ASR system. And the two codes you got, 21 and 30 were given the same description as what you also stated. As far as myself, or the couple guys at the time I looked it up, it did not ring a bell to a common problem. Did you check for faults in any other control module? Besides the light being on, is there anything wrong with the drivability?

Pembroke36,

At first the driveability was affected, it appeared to go into the limp home mode, gas pedel become stiff to depress. Parked car for about an hour then restarted, ASR still on but gas pedel felt ok and drove it back home with no problems. Once in my garage with the ASR light is still, I checked and found codes 21 and 30. Members of this site responded that the engine cable harness is defective on this model car and should be replaced before proceeding with trouble shooting this problem. I'm currently searching for the best supplier (low priced) to purchase the electrical engine cable harness. I still don't have a clue what those codes (21 & 30) mean. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes, the harness does get brittle and fail on those models, but I would hate to say change it and still have a problem. It is not a real cheap and easy thing to try and hope for the best. The A7/3s1 is part of the hydraulic unit behind the left headlight. Ever try to clear the codes? If you did, I guess they came right back.
