Headlamps for a 2003 S430 4matic

I am leery of going to the Benz dealership to find out, $15 versus $$$ for the lowbeams on my Benz. One burned out on Monday, then poof... the other today!

Let me know please.

Cheers,
John

Depends whether you have HID or halogen.

Is there a way to tell? I am not sure, but it look like it is a HID. What is the best way to tell? And is there anyway someone like me can make sure it's properly aimed?

Cheers,
John

Look at the back of the headlight assembly. If there are spring-like clips everywhere, it's a two minute replacement with a standard bulb from NAPA. It's close quarters working, but if you have reasonably sized hands, you should be able to do it with a minimum of cussing. If you have the optional lights, I can't help you; the standard lights are a simple maintenance item. I don't know if the optional lights are a bigger hassle or not. I expect the bulbs will be more expensive, but beyond that someone else will have to comment.

Good luck.

Oh, use some throw-away gloves or be VERY careful not to touch the bulb glass in either event. The oil on your fingertips will cause the bulb to fail if you touch it with your bare fingers.
