I am not sure if you have the same engine I used to have in 2001 ML55, but those are bulletproof as well.
You might find some annoying issues with new generation electronics, but can't beat MB mechanics, mean German engineering.
Fill up your profile please with location and model info.
The engine is different than your 2001 ML55. The E55 is supercharged and puts out close to 500 Horsepower. The engine is bullet proof but the inter cooler pump will stop working in time and you could have supercharger clutch problems. I would attempt to get an after market warranty.

If you're concerned about repair costs, an extended warranty is something to consider. There are plenty of companies that will write one on a car as young as yours that will take it out to 100k miles. It will cost a bit because you have an AMG version with all the good and bad that implies, but it will keep you from losing sleep.

I suggest you read the manual and spend time in the appropriate forum for your car. Newer MRZ, particularly AMG/Supercharged versions are very well engineered, but they are also very complex. Changing the oil every now and again and expecting trouble-free driving from that won't do. In my experience with my W220, careful attention to the maintenance schedule will save you some breathtaking repair bills.

Enjoy your ride! You've got yourself a real Q-ship; it's blindingly fast, corners like a go-kart, stops right now, and looks like your Dad's business ride--except for that little "supercharged" medallion on the side.
