Hi, I'm Dave, 35 years old, AKA Oregoon.
Aside from all things MBZ, I'm an avid surfer, fisherman, and general aficianado of all things outdoor. I still even skateboard some...
Like many of us, I'm job-hunting after finally graduating from PSU last year, though I'm employed as a regional trucker at present, a trade I've enjoyed for the last decade.
Over the last 20 years, I've owned numerous project vehicles and daily drivers, everything from a '57 Willys with a 455, to a an International Travelall of the 1973 vintage, with a smattering of Chevys, Landcruisers, VWs and Volvos thrown it.
A while back, I became interested in vehicles with a reputation for longetivity. At the same time, somebody offered me an '80 300D (auto, 280,000mi, tan, leather, air) for a song. I'd owned several old Volvos with ludicrious mileage, and I'd always heard the MBZ diesel was the only thing tougher, so I swapped my tired old Landcruiser for a clean old Benz, and I've loved every mile of it.
Recently, I needed some new wheels myself (my wife stole the 300D immediately, and declared it her own!), so I picked up a decent '81 240D with a four-speed and 218,000, and so far, so good.
I'm a reasonable wrench, taught by necessity and trial and (expensive) error. My 300D has been trouble free, though my 240 is giving me low-oil pressure at idle... After lurking around here a bit over the last year or so, I though it was high-time to sign-up, and post my thick-headed questions.
Sorry in advance, and thanks for any help you can offer.
