C220 CDI Alternatives?

Hi all, new here, I am interesting in buying a C220 for the following reasons:

- Would like a Mercedes.
- Diesel
- Automatic
- Fuel economy.
- 4 door.

What other models could I look at that could offer me the same features (or maybe even better)?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Knowing the country where you live would be helpful in pinpointing the advice
220 cdi is unknown on US market.

Should you not live in Europe, or a country where you can get dependable fuel oil (sulfur<4ppm), the oldest the engine the better will behave with local diesel fuel + excellent additive (eg. Bardhal). On the other hand, the newest engine injection and starting systems are more exact and more dependent than older ones, though more complex and electronic dependent.

My suggestion is that you find a local mechanical engineer or master mechanic used to electro-diagnosis of diesel engines, specially MB, and talk to him. The way I read you, you speak of fuel economy from an operational standpoint, regardless of car-upkeep cost. Mercedes upkeep for the non-DIY is overpriced, and for the DIY is not cheap.

Good luck. JV

There are three different 220 CDI models, W202, W203 and W204 body styles. Makes a big difference when trying to compare with other models. The answer to your question would be the same still, better to go for the MB.

Not to sure about alternatives but i've had my (2008) c220 cdi for 8 months now and i love it and would recommend one to anyone. Get one with the Command dvd option and as many other extras as you can thats the best advise i can give.
