1986 300e won't start

started to stall after a few short runs, restarted and now won't start at all.
200k miles...I get a spark to the plugs and replaced them anyway...I replaced fuel pumpand filter 3 years ago. When installed 3 years ago, i checked fuel delivery problem by a short spray of starting fluid while cranking and it ran so i quickly isolated a faulty fuel pump(also didn't hear initial buzz and it responded to a slight tap of hammer). I don't understand why i can't get the car to start when i have spark and i am introducing fuel via throttle passage!
I've checked the hoses of the idle control valve, vacuum line to EZL, i've checked OVP fuse, jostled the fuel pump relay(though the starter fluid should circumvent that for testing, right?) i don't want to throw parts, including an EZl (008 545 16 32, right?) at this car. is there a diy code reader for this pre obd II car.? I replaced cap and rotor last year Even with a bad crankshaft sensor or wire, shouldn't i get a rough start? any help thanks

Not exactly sure what you mean about starting fluid, though. Never even heard of it, and so I don't know the answer.

My Mercedes' 90 and 91 have them just inboard of the right rear wheel, the fuel pumps. Are yours there?

Anyway here is where to ask:

W124 E,CE,D,TD Class - Benzworld.org - Mercedes Benz Discussion Forum

You have a W124, and these guys would know.

If you give up right near you is the awesomest mechanic for the older Mercedes in the Valley, and VERY good rates.

Mr MB at 5557A Reseda, off the 101 in Tarzana. Name is Enrique Rodriguez, working on these cars since 1961.

I used him many times, he is great and I and many others here highly recommend him.

I like Eagle Rock a lot, Oxy College is up there isn't it?

They used to have a Chevy place there called Will Newman's Citizen Chevrolet, didnt they?

Very partial to the Volvos like you had, I actually almost bought a new 96 960 was on the basis of my excellent 740 1991 sedan. But a 2nd hand 1991 SEC560 black coupe that I still have got the $38,000 the 960 wouold have cost, the old 960 and the later S90 the LAST of the good RWD Volvos. Good looking too. The 240 is the eternal "brick". That and the 740 "look like the box they came in" LOL

66 IMPERIAL that is a real US luxo barge, impressive. Finest and most luxurious Chrysler they ever made thaqt decade. Wonderful with a 440 in there.

i know reseda blvd real well and will check out mr. MB. what i meant with starter fluid, was to see if there was a fuel delivery problem, you spray a second or two of the stuff in the intake manifold, if you have electrical ignition intact, the motor should run until the limited fuel burns off... btw, i piggybacked a test ignition module, and the care still did not start...so, i will try the crankshaft sensor on the flywheel(also called a reference sensor on the flywheel) and see if that's the problem with the no start..this weekend. melik thanks for any help or comments

a mechanic at the junkyard suggested i check out the rotor/distrib on the car despite replacing it 2 years ago?(i thought they last longer) any way the rotor/distrib were burnt up, replaced them courtesy autozone down the street and the car fired up immediately. learned a lesson, check gas, plugs, fuses, rotor/distrib if applicable, then relays, air etc. my mistake was not to bother checking out the rotor distrib, thinking it was still "new" after two years.... do these things last only a short time, even on electronic systems.. 60's cars needed plugs, rotors, etc. replaced yearly, that's why many have gone to electronic ignition...thanks everyone melik until the next proble.
