smoke from under the hood!!!!!
I drive the 1987 190E with the 2.3 8v engine. Recently my heater core blew, and I just bypassed it with a standard heater hose, the coolant flows fine, so I dont think thats the trouble.
But ... everytime im at a stand still, red light, or traffic jam I see smoke pour out of the hood. Its not so thick that I cannot see through it, but I can see it. I've gotten a chance to smell it once, and I want to say a mixture of burnt oil and exhaust fumes.
And so, I popped the hood and gave it a look while she was running. Apparently during the last oil change I accidentaly left the pcv tube that goes into the air box, and the EGR (maybe). and there was a smoke and a large amount of oil pouring out of the hole in the valve cover the tube was supposed to hook up to.
I guess what im asking is, I think this is a ridiculous amount of smoke coming from this hole and I dont think its normal. I was thinking perhaps it was the hydraulic lifters maybe letting the exhaust gas and oil by, or even the valve seals/gaskets themselves.
I have a real feeling that there is something wrong inside/under the valve cover. if anyone could give any feedback/advice. or even just tell me im right/wrong or just crazy.
any response would be great.
