Hi, I am the original owner of a 2002 C240. I joined this forum to learn more about the car since it has 110,000 miles now and I'm performing more maintenance myself, as well as having issues pop up due to its age/mileage. Looks like many of my questions can be answered here. My current issues with the care are:
- a/c died (evaporator) and they want $2600 for the repair. I'm going to have to shell this out once I come up with the cash because I can't stand sitting in the traffic in 90+ degree summer days. Was going to try this repair myself until my mechanic brother-in-law enlightened me on how involved the job is. Basically entails removing most of the interior to get to the climate control system. One slip up and my otherwise nice interior is screwed :-)
- Will have to do a brake job soon. I've done this before about 4 years ago. Easy and straightforward job.
- About due for new struts/shocks. I'll have my brother-in-law do the job since he can do it much easier and quicker at work with all the right tools. The only thing I need to do is shell out the $$$ for the high priced parts :-)
- Has an oil leak I originally thought was the rear seal. The Benz mechanic said the rear seal is fine and its actually the oil pan leaking. Quoted price of about $1700 because they either have to pull the engine or lower the subframe to remove the oil pan and reseal it properly. Its not a bad leak so an absorbent mat in the underside cowling soaks up the drips just fine and saves me $$ :-)
I want to find out from other owners what other issues to expect and if I should invest the money to fix these few but expensive issues. The car drives nice otherwise and I am willing to fix the issues if I can expect it to go another 100,000 with few problems. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
