Lowering Rear Parking Guide Antennas on S class?

Hello,

I have a 1992 400SE and this is my first older model "S" class car. I noticed that the two rear parking guide antennas do not go down when I shift out of reverse. Is there a way to get these things to lower manually and stay down?

I reached up under the fender through the cargo area and I can feel the motor with the gear but I can't seem to get them to go down. What is the secret here as I'm starting to feel stupid

Thank you in advance for your replies and help!

Hi, there is a model specific forum for your car under "Sedans" where members with the same car might better be able to help you. Good luck!

Thanks but I tried doing a forum wide search and nothing came up other than which models and years actually have the rear fender indicators. I read somewhere that stated if they stay up there is a bulb out but that doesn't seem to be it. I'm sure it's a simple fix, just waiting for someone who already figured it out.

The back up assist rods are driven by pressure and vacuum form the (PSE) locking pump under the passenger rear seat just as your locks are. They are activated from a signal by the back up switch. The rods are vacuum elements and are the orange hose on the pump (RH). I guess you could remove the hose and cap the pump, being very carefull not to break the nozzle it will be over $300 for a pump. You also could plug the ends going to the actuators on each side, mine usually go up quickly, but retract slowly 15 sec or so.

Thank you!

Thank you very much for the information. I was wondering if it was somehow connected to my central locking system as I've been having problems with that as well. Hopefully the pump isn't shot!

It also powers your lumbars, provides back up vacuum if your engine does not, and releases your headrest if they are not electric.
