Hi.
I have been reading this site for long time and
Finally I have joined!

I own 1995 S600.
My id is "Slow s600 Driver" because my s600 has ASR light
and it is restricting my engine output....
The light came on about a week ago...after I accidently let my car idle overnight...for about 10 hours...
I think I baked my ETA or electrical lines...
So,...
I am forced to drive slow...
The car is slow to get up to speed but it will run 70-80 miles per hour
on freeway no problem...it just takes long time to get there...
I believe it is called "limp home mode"...Oh well...
it is too expensive/ too hard to fix the ETA or electrical lines so
I will just drive my S600 slowly...until it dies on me.
Anyway, hi to you all.

SSD Hi

Can you limp into a workshop to get your codes read? At least then you would know what problem you are up against.

Amazing fault situation... Did the engine cut itself off through overheating?

I am now expert on ASR...

Let me explain MY ASR problem to you guys...
My 1995 S600 ran smooth...No problems.
Couple weeks ago, I let the car idle for overnight..about 10 hours.
I came out in the morning and there it was...with engine running...
I ran into the car and the temp was around 120 degree...(very closed to red-line).
I turned on all the fans on high heat to release the hot air and opened hood.
I tried to drive it in hope that the wind will dissipate the hot air.
I noticed ASR light for the first time ever...
Ever since then, the car is very slow to get up to the speed.
I have to almost put the "paddle to the metal" to get any sense of urgency.
It will go through all the gears but rather abruptly.
It will drive on freeway 70, 80 miles per hour no problem.
The car has very difficult time on any hills...
I did take it to a indy and the code reads ETA (it cost me $140 by the way)
He told me that replacing ETA may, may not fix the problem...
so, I am just a slow S600 driver.

I know zilch about Electronic Throttle Actuators, but could it be that your ETA has to be reset or 'relearned'?

I found another recent thread that discussed the topic. eg: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w140...procedure.html

At the bottom of the page on that thread is a list of 'Similar Threads' which might be worth reading.

BTW, I think that I probably would not have driven a car in that over-heated condition. Just let it cool down by itself. Although M-B tries hard to make their cars fool-proof, they do not have an 'engine trip' facility for the situation you described.

p.s. Just read http://v12uberalles.com/throttle_actuator_rewire.htm and it seems that your fault could be caused by frying the wires in the ETA. Could be a DIY repair if you are handy with a soldering iron. But a bit of a mare to get access to. The pics are very useful.
