I've just adopted a beautiful dark blue 1969 280 SEL. It's a great car in excellent cosmetic shape. I'm excited about having it and having this forum.
It needs a little help here and there - there's a slight miss and I think I've identified a leaking injector. Haven't done a compression test yet, but I have NO power on takeoff, and living in the mountains up over 7000 feet, I have to shift down into 2nd to climb. Pretty sure valves are needing an adjustment . . . I'm about to order the Haynes manual so that I can get the specs on everything (valves, etc . . . ).
Another issue is that there's a short somewhere that keeps blowing the number 5 (the red 16 amp) fuse - this circuit includes the windows, fuel gauge, instrument cluster handbrake lamp, and maybe more. While the windows would be my usual suspects, something tells me it's in the fuel gauge - as it's erratic behavior is suspect and it seems to short out regularly when the tank is full (or is that just my imagination?).
If anyone has any suggestions, thoughts, clues, or diagnostic hints I would love to hear them. I'm unfamiliar with this car and while I'm mechanically inclined, I'm no mechanic. Thanks in advance for any help.
