Post my ml320 is busted can you help

hi all please bear with me im new to all this
i have an ml 320 ( w163 ) is a 1999 model ive owned it about two years & the car has been excellent up until about six months ago.

it has many problems most of them very minor but the 1 thats causing a major nightmare is when you hit the kickdown button the revs fly up it drops a gear or two then hits about 4500rpm & misfires badly loses power so i pull over switch off then re-start & misfire gone.

car drives fairly well under normal conditions but is not as good as when i first got it
i really love this car & dont want to get rid of it ialways look after it i change oil every 4 to 5 months it has filters & plugs once a year

since this misfire thing has started ive changed ( airflow meter / coils / leads / cam sensor / crank sensor / egr valve / throttle body / two sets of plugs / complete exhaust system / and some other bits & pieces.

please can anybody shed some light on this

Hi, sim, welcome to the forum.

Please take a minute to click the User CP link and complete your BW profile for vehicle and location as that is often useful information.

Also, please note that member introductions is really just a familiarization area, quick meet and greet kind of thing. For help on specific issues about your car, you're best off posting into the W163 forum on this site. There are some VERY knowledgeable people in there.

I'd only offer a couple of ideas. Have you checked for codes? Run a diagnostic on it? Or just shotgunning it with parts? When you replaced the AFM where did you buy it? If it's one of the inserts from ebay it's likely one of the chinese knockoffs that most always cause problems. There is also the K40 relay, and it could be a transmission related problem (almost sounds like it is going into limp mode) so I'd check the leak-prone connector and change the fluid/filter in that thing as well.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
