Mercedes SLK-350 problems/poor quality??
Purchased my Certified Pre-Owned SLK-350 car in February 09 at Walnut Creek Mercedes Benz. Immediately after purchase I noticed a very loud noise that was more evident when cold. I brought the car to dealership who acknowledged the noise and replaced the oil pump. Got car back a few days later making exactly the same noise and returned it to dealership. One week later, and after having a factory rep out to acknowledge something was amiss they replaced cam tensioners springs and all kinds of stuff. Got car back, still made the noise, but in addition, leaked oil all over my garage and had to return it again. After another week I got car back and the minute I started it up at delaership noticed a terrible whine sound as well as the original noise. Returned it again and had same factory rep come out who said the whine noise was a belt tensioner being too tight, but now said that the original noise was deemed normal!!! I drove four other SLK-350's including one on their lot which mad the noise in varying degree's but at about 1/100th the audible level of mine. Both times the rep came out I asked the dealership if I could meet with rep and was rebuffed both times. The most annoying aspect of this is that somewhere in the middle of this nightmare I asked the shop foreman what the next step would be if problem persisted as I was purchasing very expensive wheels and did not want to move forward if I was going to continue to have problems. I was told "next step would be a new engine". Of course, after they could not figure it out they are refusing and I have purchased wheels, lowered etc. on his word. Mercedes Benz of Walnut Creek has been horrible to deal with BEWARE>
