Love the "New" Car, but a Bit Frustrated... seat belts

I love my "new" 1999 230 SLK. I bought it from a dear friend about a year ago. It had 7,800 miles on it... no I did not put the comma in the wrong place. My new wife -- newer than the car -- loves the "Baby Benz" as much as I do.

Frustration: The female side -- the receiver side -- of the seatbelts is so short... so close to the chasis, that it is very difficult to buckle the belt. My wofe has little touble, but I have a heck of a time getting my big, fat hands down between the seat andf th center compartment door. Has anyone fixed this problem? I've seen a couple produvcts on-line, and I may give it a try, but it will be a bit of a chore to get those seats out. I'd love to hear that someone succeeded.
