biodiesel vs veggie oil

I'm just starting to investigate these alternative fuels so I hope someone can give me a clue as to which is better. Here is what I've learned so far:
*VEGGIE OIL needs a separate fuel tank and "jells" in cold weather which means heated fuels lines and a heated fuel tank is neccesary. (not a ringing endorsement for living in Pennsylvania)
*BIODIESEL can be mixed with diesel so there is no need for a 2nd fuel tank or heated fuel lines. Need chemicals to produce biodiesel.

Which is easier and cheaper to make? What kind of performance & fuel mileage can one expect? Can either be used as a home heating oil?
