Brake wear signal

Recently bought a 2nd hand Mercedes sports coupe 220 with automatic gear box (mileage at time of purchase was 35000).

Soon after the purchase the display prompted me to book in for a service and also displayed the brake wear signal.

So got the car serviced at a local garage that used Mercedes parts and all was fine. Have been informed that the brake pads do not in fact need replacing contary to what the car is telling me.

Can anyone please explain why this is the case? The garage owner reckons he can attach the car to the computer to check if there is a problem with anything electrical, is this the case?

Any help would be gratefully received.

Maybe an improperly installed or shorted brake wear pad sensor? Those sensors are not expensive and you can unplug one at a time until you find the one causing the light and replace that one. See if that doesn't fix it for you.
