2006 S500 rims on 1998 E320

I have a 1998 E320 that has the chrome plated alluminum rims. I have noticed that all the salt they put on the road this winter for snow removale has caused the crome to start to pill off. I found a set of rims off of a 2006 S500 for sale localy for a $150 so I bought them. My question is, will they work on my 98? They are 17" I believe and my origianl rims are only 16". What is a good size tire for this car - rim combo? I will try to post a picture of one of the new rims I purchased.

The worn out tires on the S500 rims are 245/45 R17's. When I bought the E320 it had 245/50 R16's that looked and worked great. When I got new tires I bought 215/55 R16 because they were considerately cheaper but I do not like this size as much as they look to small for the car even though they are what came on it originally .

The S500 rims are designed for 14mm (diameter) lug bolts and your W210 uses 12mm diameter lug bolts, so you need special "adapter" lug bolts, i.e. 12 mm diam but with larger ball seat than you now have.

The wheels you've purchased are likely 7.5J and ET 46 (is cast in) if they are genuine Mercedes and really wheels for the S-class, and the 17-in wheels Mercedes made for your W210 are usually 7.5J and ET 37, so you could have an offset issue.

Looking at the wheel catalog your pictured wheels look more like the "Rucha" wheel for the W211 than anything in the catalog for W220 (S-class).

Recommended 17-in tire size for W210 is 235/45-17

More info if you can read the part numbers cast into the wheel.

Thanks Kent.

The S500 rims have these numbers stamped into them 8Jx17H2ET38 / A2114011902 / SL1698/ B66474126 Thanks for any help.

Those crome plated wheels look like Avantgarde wheels for Euro cars, but they don't come coated from the factory.

The correct tyre size for the W210 is 235/45/17 (instead of 245) or 215/55/16 (just examples).

The correct offset for a 8J17 wheel on a W210 is 37 mm.

Does that mean they are the same back spacing, and lug bolt size as the new ones I got? Sorry if this is a dumb question but what do the W210,211,220 mean?

Good, that means they are W211 E-class wheels as I speculated, even if they were previously fitted to an S-class. "211" in the part number is the "clue," of course.

The same 14mm vs 12mm thing applies, as E-class converted to 14mm lug bolts with the W211.

So I need a 12mm lug bolt that has the 14mm size ball seat? On the back spacing is the difference betweem ET37 and ET38 that much of a differece or am I good? So W210 And W211 are E-class Models and W220 Is S-class? Thanks a ton, this site is awsome!

On the back of my old rims it had 7-1/2JX16H2 and TWN cast in to the back of the rim. The back of the rim also had 7F22M1 stamped into it. On the front of the rim it had KBA 43871 cast into it.

I will try to post some pictures of the test fit of the new tires on one side of the car and the old rims on the other side of the car.

The lug bolts ball seat seemed a tad big for the new rims but close to the right size. Does anyone have a part number or place I could get the conversion Lug bolts form?

If I went with the recommended 235/45/17, instead of 245 that are on the rims in these pictures how would it change how it looks?
