Advice please

I'm new to Mercedes Benz. I'm interested in a 1990 350sdl. It looks to be in decent shape but it has 360,000 miles on it. Is it worth the gamble to invest in this car? What are the weak links to this model and to a car with this kind of mileage? The A/C doesn't work and it needs a front end alignment. Other than that the owner says the car is "fine". Is this a good model to restore/rebuild assuming the parts are available. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Dwayne

that 350 engine throws rods, if it hasnt already done so and been fixed by having new, higher strength rods replaced. Not to say that it will just saying that it is very common for that engine.

Are there other weak links such as transmission problems? Is 360,000 at or close to the limit one should expect for this engine even if it was regularly serviced? are gas models better or more reliable?

Yes, it's the rodbender engine, but if this example has 350K miles it's been fixed.

Great car, but that is a bunch of miles...

He is asking $2500 but someone told me he would take $2000. I would hate to commit that kind of money to any car with that kind of mileage if I knew it was near death. I've heard prices of over $10000 to replace that engine. Is that price accurate? If it is, why would I want to invest in something that old? Are parts readily available for this model? Thanks, Dwayne
