After 34 years (ok so the first 17 I wasn't allowed to drive) I've recently become the proud owner of our first Mercedes, a 2 year old R320 CDI. We have had many many nice cars over the past few years, mainly Audi/BMW/Jaguar but always avoided Mercedes after a very bad dealership experience about 9 years ago (I was in the market to buy a brand new E from them, but their attitude resulted in me buying a BMW 5 series!). Anyway, last family car we had was the 7 seater BMW X5, lovely car, but our three kids outgrew the back seats of the X5 which are pretty tiny. We had been looking for a larger family car without it being a "mum-mobile" (e.g. Zafira/Galaxy.etc!) but also without it being a bus. Spotted an R320 and thought it was ideal.
Went to the Mercedes dealer to find, in horror, that the NEW R-Class has been "upgraded" to be a 7 seater. Completely not what we wanted, as the 6-seat configuration was what drew us to it. So we turned to the used car market and found a fantastic spec and well looked after 2 year old R320. Silver Sport, Black interior, just about all the options.
I'm in the process of fitting four headrest replacement DVD players/screens (see post in Audio section requesting some help on getting rid of the SRS errors), which means all three of our kids (plus a friend) can watch their own DVDs. In the X5 I had a lovely roof mounted DVD player, but of course the kids would fight over which film to watch. Bloody spoiled brats ... in my days it was "sit in the back, shut up, we'll be there in 5 hours. If you need the toilet tie a knot in it". How times have changed
