Hello! I am a new California member
My name is Christian, a native Californian who in the last few years has become an avid Mercedes Benz restoration enthusiast... not to mention a bit lighter in the wallet.
I was first introduced to German engineering with the purchase of a 1991 BMW 325i Cabriolet, whilst for many years always admiring the Mercedes Benz cars on the road.
In 2005 I made my first MB acquisition in the form of the 1973 450 SLC pictured. It is an original Zender from Germany. I can't tell you how confused i was in trying to find info on the vin for the first several months I had the car. While searching for parts and info, benzworld.org threads kept popping up for me to sift through. What a HUGE help! Kudos to everyone here exchanging information!
In late 2005, I purchased my 1987 260E and with +288,000 miles on it, it still serves me beyond well in every way... still looks great on the road, no major issues, in fact, the only thing I have had to do to it was change the water pump, new plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor.
I recently became owner of a 1989 560 SEL
At 1,500.00 USD I found it a steal for the condition it is in. The interior is immaculate in its silver gray tones, the body is straight and the engine is strong. I assume I need new distributor cap, plugs and wires because the car shakes when I come to a stop light in the city. I have dug through so many posts regarding shakes that I have successfully narrowed it down to 128 different possible problems! Ha Ha! Since it shakes while in gear stopped and barely shakes in idle park, i am heading to replace the aforementioned, clean the injectors and replace motor mounts before I dive into transmission diagnostics. It runs great and shifts gears fine on the freeway from the city anyway.
Well, that is my story for now folks. I am sure I will have questions in the future and hopefully be able to answer some as well!
Thanks be to this site and everyone involved! I wanted to wait until I had some personal MB before joining.
