The G-Class Benz in the BW Logo?

Well, I wanted to buy one for my father, but for some strange god damn reason, they cost over $20,000+ even for the older models... What gives? I found one from 1989 reconditioned that was $22,000?

I posted in the G Class section, but no reply. Anyone care to help me or point me in the right direction in finding a cheap one under $7,000?

Thanks.

Ain't gonna happen unless it's a wreck or rust bucket or has blown engine.

These cars were not officially imported to the USA until 2002 and are very rare here and are enthusiast collectors items. New ones are over $100k when sold in USA.

It's true, I see you are in London so you may have a wider pool to draw from but US cars are still very expensive even used. I price them locally used at $29,000 or so and move upwards from there. You can buy the converted trucks for maybe $15,000 but they are more basic, which I prefer in a G anyway. They just feel more authentic with cheap bucket seats and covered in a light haze of road grime.

The $100,000 price is because Mercedes saw the profit potential of SUV's (at the time) and began to import gussied up versions with plush interiors, S-Class style seats and instruments, lots of electronic gadgets, etc.

If you really want a shock, do a search for Land Rover Defender 40 and Defender 110 on eBay or otherwise in the US. Released here in the 90's in limited numbers these 50's/60's design-era vehicles sell for big money, often $40,000-70,000 depending upon model, condition, etc.

That would be a rover 90 or 110... A 40" wheelbase on a land rover would be awful!

Anyway... There are LOTs of sub $10k Gs for sale in europe in good condition. I was in Newcastle last year visiting family, and popped into a used car lot to look around. They had a BEAUTIFUL G280 on their lot, I think it was a late '90s model, for 9,000 sterling. It was IMMACULATE! If you're willing to go older, and perhaps a little rougher, $7k should be no problem.

As for us yanks, we gots to deal with HUGE markups on the Gs. I'll stick with my Rovers! Aside from my Benzez I have a LR Disco II, a LR 109 V8, Rover p6 3500, Rover P5, Rover P4 "auntie", and an MGB GT V8... We have a Humber Super Snipe wagon back at the family home near newcastle, along with a BEAUTIFUL P4 that was my great aunts. Some day, I'll ship them over here. No room for now!

You may not find a G series V8 for your dollar, but the 6 cylinder models ain't bad. They're quicker than the Land Rovers, and a heck of a lot quieter...

What's lame is your really stupid approach and inability to spell they're.

300SL Gullwings are at least 50 years old and they don't cost the price of a cellphone either.

Go have some warm beer.

You're right, I was thinking of the FJ40 Land Cruiser doubtless.
