Question MB Roadside assistance?

How well does Mercedes roadside assistance work? Has anyone used their services? Does it work well enough for me to get rid of my AAA membership? Just wondering.

My wife used it once for a flat tire, she said the service was quick and efficient. She dropped her AAA membership but she knows that I still have my AAA membership for maps, etc (or for roadside service if I happen to be in the car).

Drop AAA like a hot rock...... Are you going to let let some untrained knucklehead jump start your vehicle and blow out all the electronics? Or worse? Not me...

Like mileage estimates, your results may vary. The service is part relationship between MBUSA and the local dealership network. While there are legendary stories about the service, there are also those about long waits and seemingly high charges for things like batteries and tires, if a purchase is required.

Towing is not free under Roadside Assistance, so either have an auto club or your auto insurance coverage handy. If you have a new car, like the GLK, Mercedes "travel assurance" will cover you if you're away from your area.

One of the legendary stories that I love had to do with a broken G-Wagen on a trans-Siberian rally. The driver used a sat phone to call for service on a broken driveline part; the parts network in Stuttgardt flew out a mechanic with the part to install it in the middle of nowhere, Siberia and the G-Wagen was on it's way. Of course, it did take a couple of days for the guy to get there . . .

MB roadside assistance offers very limited service.
Battery jump or replacement
add fuel
change flat
replace fuse
That's about it. They don't even carry OBD2 scanner to waste time for troubleshooting any real problems.
Good that MB send technician to Siberia in 2 days. When my W124 broke serpentine belt in Tennessee Friday morning, the MB dealership having huge building and parts store offering lot of clothing would keep me waiting for the belt till Monday afternoon, or Tuesday.
