Question Really confused with my C230 factory stereo

I have a 2006 C230 with the factory Harmon Kardon system and the CD changer in the glove box. Even though the dealership told me there was no aux input, I found the stupid little part and installed it. Works great except the connection in the glove box...what's that about? Anyway, I went my local shop wanting to replace the factory H/K with a double din unit and they started talking about optical and running all new wiring through the car....blah blah blah. Does anyone know how to tell if the system I have has an optical ring? I found the dash kit but does anyone make a wiring harness so I can install the new head unit myself? Also, just a side note...why in the world does this stereo have telephone controls that do not work and according to the dealership, has no add on module that would make it work. This is my first Benz and have yet to understand German engineering. Thanks to anyone that can help.

If your car is from 2006, it would not only have fibre but the more modern MOST option.

Do you mean you would install an after market double-DIN unit? Then your dealer is right, because of the optical ring from the head unit to the amplifier and other devices, you would need quite a lot of wiring.

This has been covered several times at the Audio & Telematics section.
