1989 300E charging problem

I have 89 300E with a charging problem. If I let sit overnight battery is drained and will not turn over. I thought it was battery so I replaced it with new. It will start and run for several times during the day, but when I let it sit for several hours overnight battery dead. I can't hear any motors running or notice any lights on causing the drain. Any ideas.

There is an open short somewhere, it could be a failed electronic item.

How would a person go about finding an open short? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Not sure if your car has the same electric seat cirucits as some of the C-class vehicles have, but the seat electrics have been a problem in the past with numerous posts. It should be very easy to either, disconnect the circuits or pull the fuses, to check if this is the problem.

If the seats are not the problem, than I would recommend placing a voltmeter directly across the battery terminals & observing the votage as each circuit fues is pulled. One thing to keep in mind is that some units might have to be reset once voltage is disconnected (radio code reset, for example).

Good luck.
